According to a formal US Army evaluation, the 249F eliminates 96% of all visible muzzle flash and was awarded the highest score during testing. This prevents momentary night blindness and eliminates flash distortion of night vision devices, allowing the shooter to effectively maintain target awareness throughout an engagement.

The flash hider's four open-tine prongs are internally serrated to reduce visible signature in low-light/no-light conditions, allowing the shooter to remain undetected on the battlefield where signature reduction plays an important role in both mission success and operator safety.
