The TGO-IR laser system (Tactical Guidance Operation – Infrared) is primarily used as an infrared pinpoint/wide field illumination targeting system. A pulsing infrared hot-dot is centered in a broad field of illumination to allow the pilot on “nap of the earth” missions to quickly ascend to identify the target area and register on the target location. Once the mission is completed the pilot can descend and continue below enemy radar coverage. The pilot’s view of TGO-IR illumination will appear as a slight trapezoidal shape since it is directed by a ground controller.
The TGO-IR’s typical 3-Watt illumination pattern will cover an area of 440 m x 260 m at 5 km. The TGO-IR system is tripod mounted and powered by a BAC 5590 battery or standard vehicle outlet connection.
